Lord, help us to stay faithful to You

32nd Week in Ordinary Time (B) : Saturday 13th November 2021

Wis. 18:14-16; 19:6-9; Ps. 104:2-3,36-37,
42-43; Lk. 18:1-8 (Ps. Wk. IV)

The Wisdom of Solomon contrasted the evil of the Egyptians, who had killed the infants of the Israelites in the Nile River, with the miraculous rescue of the Israelites by their God.  God’s word had come to stand on the earth while still touching heaven. In doing so, God parted the Red Sea and saved the Israelites while punishing the Egyptians by bringing the waters of the Red Sea to drown them. This is a reminder that God will always protect his people.

In this parable of the persistent widow, Jesus was encouraging the people to pray. Widows were powerless in Jesus’ time, yet this woman was relentless in bringing her case before an uncaring judge. The judge did not care about the widow’s situation, but her persistence wore him down, and he granted her justice. Jesus’ message to us is that God is so much more merciful than the judge; therefore, we should never be afraid to bring our concerns to God in prayer. We are encouraged to be faithful so that when Christ comes again, he will find faith here on earth.

Lord, thank You for being merciful and faithful to us.
