We may have many affections that take up a lot of space of our minds, but they are not deep enough to take roots in our hearts.
In today’s gospel text, we hear Jesus talk about the ‘treasure hidden in a field’ and the ‘pearl of great value’. These precious things reveal themselves as a gift to those who have found them, for they don’t lie on the surface or stand out to catch attention. And to the ones who have been gifted to find them will be ready to give up all they have to own and keep the treasure.
Jesus intends the treasure hidden in the field and the pearl of great value to represent the Kingdom of Heaven. All his life, he was passionate about proclaiming and building the Kingdom. He even gave up his life for it.
Is there anything that I am so passionate about that the Holy Spirit could use it to touch me and move me and lead me towards God?
Lord Jesus, give me eyes to see and strength to follow You in the building of the Kingdom.
