Lord Jesus, help me to see if there is anyone I have not forgiven

1st Week of Lent (B) : Saturday 27th February 2021

Deut. 26:16-19; Ps. 118:1-2,4-5,7-8;
Mt. 5:43-48 (Ps Wk I)

Jesus, in the Gospel reading, speaks on the love of enemies. This is truly radical as God’s love is unconditional and without limit. Our personal experiences of forgiveness give us a sense of liberation and freedom from the harbouring of past hurts that cause much pain and suffering.

To be God’s children (Mt. 5:45), we are asked to be perfect as the heavenly Father is perfect (Mt. 5:48).  This perfection is to love everyone with unconditional and all-embracing love!

We are constantly challenged to live this part of our Christian calling, which can be demanding.

Yet all things are possible with God. If we surrender to God, He gives us the courage and strength to forgive like how we have been forgiven.

Observance of God’s law is reiterated in the first reading wherein Moses revealed to the Israelites the importance of keeping God’s law as our commitment to our Creator.

During this Lenten season, we are challenged to live this gift of ‘forgiveness’  particularly to the persons who have hurt us.

“Lord, grant us the grace to be able to forgive from our hearts as we have been forgiven by God and those who know what forgiveness entails.”
