Lord, during this Lenten season, help me to be more attentive to your voice

1st Week of Lent, Saturday : 7th March 2020

Deut. 26:16-19; Ps. 119(118):1-2,4-5,7-8;
Mt. 5:43-48 (Ps Wk I)

One of the hallmarks of Christianity is the commandment of LOVE, particularly the ‘Love of enemies’. When living out, we experience a sense of liberation. Jesus said to his disciples in today’s Gospel: to love their enemies because of the unconditional love of God for all — the good and the bad inclusive. Thus we are all children of God (Mt.5: 45) and we are called to be perfect as the heavenly Father is perfect (Mt. 5: 48). By this, we witness to God’s love!

This commandment of LOVE is imprinted upon the whole of humankind as in the Old testament during Moses’ time wherein the Israelites were expected to follow. So it is now for all believers who follow Christ’s sense of love in forgiveness and compassion.

This makes the refrain in today’s responsorial psalm real in saying that “They are happy who follow God’s law!” This implies seeking God’s will in our daily life — making discernment a way of life. As we grow in this — spirit of adhering to God’s call, we are sure that our lives will reveal God’s love, mercy and compassion that leads to forgiveness.

During this Lenten season, let us take up the challenge to be attentive to the Voice of God in our hearts, mind and actions.

“Lord, thank You for saving my soul and helping me grow in Your liberating love of compassion and love.”
