Dear Jesus, help our hearts 'burn' within us for you
Wednesday within Easter Octave : 20th April 2022
Acts 3:1-10; Ps. 104:1-2,3-4,6-7,8-9;
Lk. 24:13-35
In this wonderful Gospel story, we have a summary of the whole Christian life and, within it, a model of a Eucharistic celebration. We have two people on a journey not knowing where they are going, and in fact, they are going the wrong way. Then, unknowingly, Jesus comes into their life and opens up the whole message of God about life for them. They respond by offering the stranger the hospitality of an inn. But the bread they put on the table is taken by the Stranger, broken and shared with them. And then, He was out of their sight.
At once, their eyes are opened. Immediately they continue their journey, but now it is back to where they came from – to Jerusalem and all their companions. They now know where they are going and what they have to do. May the Word of God and our shared celebration of the Eucharist have the same effect on each one of us.
Were our hearts not burning within us as He spoke with us on the Way?
