Lord, help me to proclaim the good news in word, thought, and deed

Saturday within Easter Octave : 10th April 2021

Acts. 4:13-21; Ps. 117:1,14-15,16,17-18,19-21;
Mk. 16:9-15 (Psalter proper)

Fear can sometimes prevent people from doing what is right or speaking the truth. Oppressive governments and institutions rely on this fear to keep people in line and to stifle dissent. But some truths must be shouted from the rooftops.

Peter and John were ordered by the authorities not to proclaim Jesus or perform miracles in his name anymore. Their warning fell on deaf ears, for Peter and John had lost their fear.

Encountering the Risen Lord and being gifted with the Holy Spirit fills one with power, grace, and confidence. They told the authorities that they would obey God rather than human beings and went on their way. Are we hesitant or afraid to talk about God or Jesus?

Jesus sent the disciples out to preach the good news to all creation — an interesting way of describing their mission. The good news is not meant just for human beings but for all of God’s creation. The ancients believe that the world was weakening, ageing, and running out of energy — it too needed redemption. This means that divine grace is meant for all of creation. All of creation was brought into being by God; therefore, it must be treasured and cared for. We proclaim the good news when we care for our mother earth — our Common Home. Let us each day bring our world to life in the Spirit of the risen Christ. It is God’s holy mission for all of us.

Lord, may I proclaim the good news in word, thought, and deed.
