Lord, Grant us the wisdom and strength to keep Your WORD out of for love of You

5th Week of Easter : Monday 11th May 2020

Acts 14:5-18; Ps. 114(113):1-2,3-4,15-16;
Jn. 14:21-26 (Ps Wk I)

In the Gospel passage, Jesus is with His disciples at the Last Supper.

In speaking to them, He mentions Himself, the Father and the Holy Spirit. It is as if He wanted to help His disciples see the connection between them in the Holy Trinity.

In verse 21, He says, that “the one who loves Me” is the one “who receives My commandments … and keeps them”; and in so doing, “will be loved by My Father” and He “shall love” the person and “show” Himself to the person.

To emphasise how important it is to keep Jesus’ word, in verse 23 Jesus again mentions that the one who “loves Me … will keep My word, and My Father will love” the person, “and we (Jesus and the Father) shall come” to the person, “and make our home” with the person.

Why is Jesus’ Word so important? Verse 24 gives us the answer “it is the word of the One Who sent Me.”

Then Jesus brings in the Holy Spirit, the Advocate (someone who speaks in our favour). What does Jesus say about the Holy Spirit? He says the Father will send the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. The Holy Spirit will “teach you everything and remind you of all I have said to you” (v 26).

Verse 26 would make us realise how much the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, wants to love us, be with us, and help us in all ways possible.

Lord, help us take Your word seriously. Grant us the wisdom and strength to keep them for love of You.
