Jesus prepares a place in heaven for each of us
4th Week of Easter : Friday 8th May 2020
Acts 13:26-33; Ps. 2:6-7,8-9,10-11;
Jn. 14:1-6 (Ps Wk IV)
Over a thousand years ago, Saint Augustine reflected on this passage of John’s Gospel to ask how Jesus would prepare a place for us in heaven (his Father’s house). Furthermore, if there are already many dwelling places in our Father’s house, why does Jesus need to prepare a place for us? Augustine suggested that Jesus prepares a place for us by preparing us for a place in heaven. Jesus prepared us all through his public life by revealing God to us in his teachings and actions, particularly in the great act of the Paschal mystery, his passion, death and resurrection.
Jesus, through the gift of Your Holy Spirit in the ministry of the Church, continues the work of preparing us for a place in our Father’s House.
