Transfiguration of the Lord: Tuesday, 6th August 2019

Daily Word Of God

Luke 9:28b-30, 32-35

Jesus took with him Peter, John and James and went up the mountain to pray. And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing became sparkling white. And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah.

Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, ‘Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ He did not know what he was saying. As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into the cloud the disciples were afraid. And a voice came from the cloud saying, ‘This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Before His transfiguration, Jesus’ divine nature was “veiled” in human form. The transfiguration was a glimpse of the divine glory that is to come. This brought Peter, James and John great spiritual consolations.

  • What greater love is there than that of our Lord who was willing to face death, just so that we could be saved? How much do we appreciate God’s salvific love for us or have we been taking it for granted?

  • Ponder on your daily living and ask yourself, “How can I be more fully aware of God’s divine presence in all that happens to me?”
