Daily Word Of God

Luke 10:38-42

Jesus came to a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had a sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord’s feet and listened to him speaking.

Now Martha, who was distracted with all the serving, came to him and said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself? Please tell her to help me.’

But the Lord answered, ‘Martha, Martha,’ he said, ‘you worry and fret about so many things, and yet few are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part, and it is not to be taken from her.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Martha and Mary were Jesus’ close friends.  Jesus was totally at home with them; He even wept at their brother, Lazarus’ death.

  • Likewise, in our lives, God too gives us special gifts of intimate relationships that we can share and unburden our deepest feelings and concerns.

  • While we envy Martha and Mary, we too can be blessed to have Jesus as our personal friend.  Are we aware that Jesus is longing to be our intimate and personal friend in our daily living?  How are we developing this relationship with Him?
