Daily Word Of God

Matthew 4:18-22

As Jesus was walking by the Lake of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew; they were making a cast into the lake with their net, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Come after me and I will make you fishers of people.’ And at once they left their nets and followed him.

Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. And at once, leaving the boat and their father, they followed him.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • All of us, like the apostles, are called to follow Jesus and make His Gospel of Salvation known to all peoples in our daily living.

  • How conscious are we of living this mission that God has entrusted to us in our lifetime?  Do we leave such responsibilities to priests and religious instead?

  • Do we often “count the costs” of making Jesus known and then hesitate to carry out God’s call?  Do we love ourselves and our needs more than Jesus’ Truth?
