Daily Word Of God

Mark 8:22-26

Jesus and his disciples came to Bethsaida, and some people brought to him a blind man whom they begged him to touch. He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. Then, putting spittle on his eyes and laying his hands on him, he asked, ‘Can you see anything?’

The man, who was beginning to see, replied, ‘I can see people; they look like trees as they walk around.’ Then he laid his hands on the man’s eyes again and he saw clearly; he was cured, and he could see everything plainly and distinctly. And Jesus sent him home, saying, ‘Do not even go into the village.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • This is the only miracle recorded in Holy Scriptures that describes Jesus healing by stages. Jesus had always healed outright and instantly.

  • When one is accustomed to prolonged darkness, exposure to light can be blinding to the eyes. The eyes, so used to the darkness, must gradually acclimatize themselves to the light.

  • Likewise, if a person we know has not been living in God’s ways e.g. immorality, no longer go to Church etc., we will need a lot of patience, prayer, Christian witness and kindness to draw the person back to God’s ways. Never give up, keep trying, God will be there to help you.
