Daily Word Of God

Matthew 7:6, 12-14

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls in front of pigs, or they may trample them and then turn on you and tear you to pieces.

‘So always treat others as you would like them to treat you; that is the meaning of  the Law and the Prophets.

‘Enter by the narrow gate, since the road that leads to perdition is wide and spacious, and many take it; but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus gave three teachings in today’s Gospel passage: (1) to discern before acting, (2) to be gracious to others and (3) the road to eternal life is hard and long.

  • The three teachings are inter-related: in our journey back home to God. This journey can be less arduous when we help one another and when we distinguish between what distracts and what helps us.

  • Let us pray for the grace to practise Jesus’ teachings in our daily lives.
