Daily Word Of God

Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You are salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled underfoot by men.

‘You are light for the world. A city built on a hill-top cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in the sight of men, so that, seeing your good works, they may give praise to your Father in heaven.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • We, as Christians, have been “enlightened” with “Light of Christ” at our Baptism. A Light that is capable of accomplishing much good in drawing people closer to God in our ordinary daily living.

  • However, so many of us tend to keep this “Light of Christ” hidden, private and very apologetic when we speak of Christ as though we are “imposing” Christ our Risen Lord on others.  Why is this so?

  • Let us pray that we will have the passion, courage and wisdom to witness and speak-up for Christ in situations and to people when opportunities open up for us.
