Daily Word Of God

Luke 19:41-44

As Jesus drew near Jerusalem and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it and said, ‘If you too had only recognised on this day the way to peace! But in fact it is hidden from your eyes!

‘Yes, a time is coming when your enemies will raise fortifications all round you, when they will encircle you and hem you in on every side; they will dash you and the children inside your walls to the ground; they will leave not one stone standing on another within you, because you did not recognize the moment of your visitation.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus lamented over Jerusalem because the Jews did not recognize the Messiah in their midst, and because their enemies will soon get the better of them. This is as relevant then as it is today.

  • If our minds and hearts are far away from God, then the Enemy can gain a foothold in our lives easily as the temptations of the secular world would be too strong for us to resist.

  • As we approach the end of the liturgical year, let us pray for the grace to draw closer to Jesus, our Lord, Saviour and Master.
