Daily Word Of God

Matthew 25:1-6, 8-9, 13

Jesus told this parable to his disciples: ‘Then the kingdom of Heaven will be like this: Ten wedding attendants took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were sensible: the foolish ones, though they took their lamps, took no oil with them, whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as well as their lamps. The bridegroom was late, and they all grew drowsy and fell asleep.

But at midnight there was a cry, “Look! The bridegroom! Go out and meet him.” The foolish ones said to the sensible ones, “Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out.” But they replied, “There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sell it and buy some for yourselves.”  ‘So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that we should not take anything for granted especially in the living of our faith daily. We all need to be vigilant so that our relationship with the Lord will grow more fully and intimately.

  • To be vigilant in our faith means that we must first affirm and value our vocation; whatever this may be, as a special gift that comes from God. Such vigilance too means that we are called to look at the bigger picture of our lives e.g. what does God want me to become in the coming years of my life.

  • We can only develop a personal relationship with the Lord and find life to be fulfilling if we begin today! What is God challenging you to do now?
