Daily Word Of God

Luke 9:1-6

Jesus called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.

He said to them, ‘Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; and do not have a spare tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there. As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet as evidence against them.’

So they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus wants us to witness and bring others to know about the Good News of salvation at all times.  However, this is never easy and we should expect rejection and even persecutions in our lives from our family, relatives and friends.

  • How much do we trust God’s providence in providing us with all the strength and inspirations we need to fulfil our duties as disciples of the Lord?  Do we rely solely on our own abilities or on God’s graces as well?

  • What happens when we feel discouraged in failing to make the Good News known?  Do we find strength in our prayers to try again?
