Daily Word Of God

Matthew 24:42-46

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what time of the night the burglar would come, he would have stayed awake and would not have allowed anyone to break through the wall of his house. Therefore, you too must stand ready because the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

‘Who, then, is the wise and trustworthy servant whom the master placed over his household to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed that servant if his master’s arrival finds him doing exactly that.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our need to be vigilant in the daily living of our faith as we are called to be prepared to meet God in His Coming at any time.

  • However, we are inevitably influenced by the values of secular world.  We tend to live a complacent life that immerses ourselves in the “good life” that focuses on gratification of our senses, of our work and is glued to our wealth.

  • Do you know of family members or friends who are spiritually complacent? Bring them in prayer before the Lord. Better still, share today’s gospel with them.
