Daily Word Of God

Matthew 24:42-46

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what time of the night the burglar would come, he would have stayed awake and would not have allowed anyone to break through the wall of his house. Therefore, you too must stand ready because the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

‘Who, then, is the wise and trustworthy servant whom the master placed over his household to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed that servant if his master’s arrival finds him doing exactly that.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Christ’s second coming will be swift and sudden. The Gospel reminds us to live in sincere love for Him and be obedient to do His Will.

  • Jesus teaches us today to discover our true-self in order to love Him more faithfully; even though we do not feel His absence. We should be true to Him and be vigilant at all times waiting eagerly for our Master’s return.

  • Jesus wants us to discard our masks, pretensions and self-righteousness, and replace them with Christ-like living daily so that we can receive God rightly when He comes at a time known only to Him.
