Daily Word Of God

Matthew 13:47-50

Jesus said to the crowds: ‘The kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it.

‘Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet that is cast in the sea and brings in a haul of all kinds of fish. When it is full, the fishermen bring it ashore; then, sitting down, they collect the good ones in baskets and throw away those that are no use. This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels will appear and separate the wicked from the upright, to throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Today’s Gospel speaks about eternal life. Our life on earth is limited and can only make sense if we live in accordance to and in the context of eternal life.

  • Am I living my life in a superficial manner that it has no significance after my death? If we have not yet lived fully in God’s Ways, be consoled by God’s infinite Mercy.

  • We are called to live a more vigilant faith here and now, and not to squander the gift of time and blessings that God has given us. Our daily living should be lived for the good that will last for all eternity.
