Daily Word Of God

Matthew 10:1, 5-7

Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to cast them out and to cure all kinds of diseases and sickness.

These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them as follows: ‘Do not turn your steps to pagan territory, and do not enter any Samaritan town; go rather to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. And as you go, proclaim that the kingdom of Heaven is close at hand.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The Israelites were the “Chosen” race of God and Jesus’ Good News of salvation was first offered to them.

  • However, when the Israelites rejected the Good News in spite of Jesus and His apostles tried very hard to preach to them. The Good News was then offered to the others – the Gentiles.

  • Salvation is for all peoples and not only for our private salvation. We are  very privileged to receive this gift from God.  Therefore do not take it for granted; value it as your most precious gift and then pray for the grace to have the passion to share it with others.
