Daily Word Of God

Luke 10:38-42

Jesus came to a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had a sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord’s feet and listened to him speaking.

Now Martha, who was distracted with all the serving said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself? Please tell her to help me.’

But the Lord answered, ‘Martha, Martha,’ he said, ‘you worry and fret about so many things, and yet few are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part, and it is not to be taken from her.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Every time we participate in the Eucharist, our enthusiasm should be like Martha and Mary; excited and happy to be in His presence.

  • Ponder for a few moments on our daily dispositions towards Jesus.  Do we have a listening and contemplative heart like Mary or do our thoughts wander from Jesus with our many pre-occupations in life?

  • Let us make a start from today that each time we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, we will resolve to value His presence more fully through silent listening to what He has to say to us, “ Speak Lord, you servant is listening.”
