Daily Word Of God

Mark 4:12-17

The Spirit drove Jesus into the desert and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels looked after him.

After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from God saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.’

As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon’s brother Andrew casting a net in the lake — for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, ‘Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The Gospel of the Good News of Salvation, will bring Eternal Peace, Happiness and Glory with God and all the saints in heaven.  However, to live the Gospel while on earth demands a courageous commitment that Jesus Himself proclaims and live.

  • Jesus prepares for this Mission of His Father, by withdrawing into the deserted for forty days of prayer and fasting. There He was tempted and tested by Satan. Yet, Jesus, remained faithful and single-minded in His commitment.

  • Jesus then calls His apostles, “Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.” Will we respond “yes” to God’s call to live in the holiness of our faith and vocation, as Jesus has shown us?
