Daily Word Of God

John 17:20-24

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: ‘I pray not only for these but also for those who through their teaching will come to believe in me. May they all be one, just as, Father, you are in me and I am in you, so that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe it was you who sent me.

‘I have given them the glory you gave to me, that they may be one as we are one. With me in them and you in me, may they be so perfected in unity that the world will recognize that it was you who sent me and that you have loved them as you have loved me.

‘Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they may always see my glory which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus prayed for the unity of all His followers and all peoples in the world through their belief in Him who is our Saviour, sent by the Father to save the world.

  • Jesus prayed that as He is glorified by His Father, may all peoples also glorify His Father through the Truth of His life, teachings eventually His Passion, Death and Resurrection.

  • As believers and followers of Jesus, we are first called to be united with one another through the Truth of the Paschal Mystery, by living Christ-like lives. Jesus prays that all peoples in the world will come to know the Truth and be united to Christ through our witnessing.  Are we doing our part?
