Daily Word Of God

John 16:29-33

His disciples said to Jesus, ‘Now you are speaking plainly and not using metaphors! Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; because of this we believe that you came from God.’

Jesus answered them: ‘Do you believe at last? Listen; the time will come – indeed it has come already – when you will be scattered, each going his own way and leaving me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. I have told you all this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but be brave: I have conquered the world.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel the disciples expressed their faith that “Jesus came from God His Heavenly Father.” Jesus in turn points out the reality that their faith in Him will be tested and they will scatter in fear for their lives.

  • In life, while we believe in Jesus as our Savour and Lord, we too will be tested and for many of us we too will “scatter in fear” and compromise our faith in Jesus.

  • Ponder on our lives and the Truth of Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel and ask ourselves, “How often do we put our faith in Jesus first and foremost in our lives?” Why do we sometimes “scatter in fear”?
