Daily Word Of God

Luke 5:27-32

Jesus noticed a tax collector, Levi by name, sitting at the tax office, and said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And leaving everything Levi got up and followed him. In his honour Levi held a great reception in his house, and with them at table was a large gathering of tax collectors and others.

The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples and said, ‘Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?’ Jesus said to them in reply, ‘It is not those that are well who need the doctor, but the sick. I have come to call not the upright but sinners to repentance.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Levi, the tax collector must have been a very happy man when he knew that Jesus had specially singled him out and have forgiven him of all his sins and is leading him to live a new life.

  • Overcome by gratitude, Levi wanted to share his deep experience in his faith with his other tax-collectors.

  • When you were touched by God, do you share your blessings with others? God’s blessings are meant to be shared. We are each called to have the generous attitude of Levi in the daily living of our faith.
