Daily Word Of God

Luke 21:24-28

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Great misery will descend on the land and retribution on this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive to every gentile country; and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the gentiles until their time is complete.

‘There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the turmoil of the ocean and its waves; men fainting away with terror and fear at what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • We have no control over our lives in the face of calamities and human powers that can annihilate us.  As such, we can be drawn into despair, depression and panic.

  • Yet, Jesus tells His disciples, including us, to “stand erect, hold your heads high”.  We can only do this if our faith in Jesus is strong.

  • How strong is your faith in Jesus in times of trials and tribulations?  Renew your faith in Him and live your life more fully in His ways. Begin with a meaningful prayer life and being fervent in the practice of your faith e.g. weekly Mass attendance.
