Daily Word Of God

Luke 17:7-10

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Which of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned from the fields, “Come and have your meal at once”? Would he not be more likely to say, “Get my supper ready; fasten your belt and wait on me while I eat and drink. You yourself can eat and drink afterwards”? Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told?

‘So with you: when you have done all you have been told to do, say, “We are useless servants: we have done no more than our duty.” ’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • We have distorted tendencies when we expect God to be at our service. We even grumble and complain that He is not answering our needs.

  • In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us that God does not owe us anything. On the contrary, we are obliged to be grateful to Him for His abundant blessings.

  • As creatures of God, we are called to live in accordance to His Teachings and Gospel Ways. Are we constantly faithful and grateful to God’s goodness to us?
