Daily Word Of God

Luke 11:1-4

Once Jesus was in a certain place praying, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples’’

He said to them, ‘When you pray, this is what to say:

Father, may your name be held holy,

your kingdom come;

give us each day our daily bread,

and forgive us our sins,

for we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us.

And do not put us to the test.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The prayer Jesus teaches begins with, “Father.” A Father is a “hero” and an icon for respect, love and authority to children. Jesus teaches us to call God our “Father” for we are His children.

  • “Give us each day our daily bread.” This prayer asks that God, as our Father, to give us all we need in our daily living. Ponder on how totally dependent we are on God and how grateful we ought to be toward Him.

  • Jesus also urges us to ask God our Father to forgive us of all our sins and give us the graces to forgive others too.  When we forgive others, God’s divine Mercy will in turn flood our souls with His peace.
