Daily Word Of God

Luke 11:9-13

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I say to you: Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; everyone who searches finds; everyone who knocks will have the door opened.

‘What father among you, if his son asked for a fish, would hand him a snake? Or if he asked for an egg, hand him a scorpion? If you then, evil as you are, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • As our Heavenly Father knows everything and knows us better than we know ourselves, it is right that we allow Him to decide what He thinks is “best” for us.

  • Thus, our trust in God giving us the “best” means that none of our prayers are wasted. All of them are answered, but in God’s ways and in God’s time. This is what Jesus meant when he said, “Ask”, “knock”, “search” and God will always answer your prayers.

  • Pray for the grace to deepen your relationship with the Lord rather than relate to God through our “wants and needs”. The latter is self-centered and manipulative and thus cannot be personal.
