Daily Word Of God

Luke 6:1-5

One Sabbath Jesus was walking through the cornfields, and his disciples were picking ears of corn, rubbing them in their hands and eating them. Some of the Pharisees said, ‘Why are you doing something that is forbidden on the Sabbath day?’

Jesus answered them, ‘So you have not read what David did when he and his followers were hungry – how he went into the house of God and took the loaves of the offering and ate them and gave them to his followers, loaves which the priests alone are allowed to eat?’

And he said to them, ‘The Son of man is master of the Sabbath.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • God established the Sabbath so that people will be able to devote one day of the week especially for Him, to worship Him together as a community of believers.

  • Today, the Church has set aside Sundays, Feast Days and other holy days for us to observe so that we can spend more time glorifying, adoring and thanking God in special ways for the gift of Salvation through His Son.

  • Let us spend more time in prayer and on more spiritual matters with our family on Sundays.  We need to show our gratitude to God for all the graces He has showered upon us and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us in our daily life so that we may remain faithful to Him.
