Daily Word Of God

Matthew 12:46-50

Jesus was speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standing outside and were anxious to have a word with him. Someone said to him: ‘Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to speak to you.’

But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, ‘Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?’ And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus’ love and respect for his mother and his relatives is unquestionable even as he appears to ignore them when they ask to speak to him?

  • Jesus wanted to point to a higher reality of relationships, namely our relationship with God and with others. He wants us to recognize that God is the true source of all relationships and that all of our relationships should be centered in His love.

  • Allow God’s Holy Spirit to transform your heart, mind, and will so that you will be able to love more fully and generously as He loves.
