Daily Word Of God

Luke 10:38-42

Jesus came to a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had a sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord’s feet and listened to him speaking.

Now Martha, who was distracted with all the serving, came to him and said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself? Please tell her to help me.’

But the Lord answered, ‘Martha, Martha,’ he said, ‘you worry and fret about so many things, and yet few are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part, and it is not to be taken from her.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Martha’s manner of serving and fussing over Jesus caused her much anxiety. However, Mary’s manner of “waiting” upon Jesus by sitting attentively at His feet to listen to His Words of Wisdom brought her great peace and joy.

  • Anxiety through our preoccupation with frivolous things keeps us from listening and giving the Lord our undivided attention. Instead, attend to the deeper and more meaningful things in life e.g. helping our family grow in love for God and the Gospel virtues and we will experience greater peace, unity and joy in our hearts and homes.

  • Do you make time daily to sit quietly in His Presence? Do you seek the Lord attentively daily in prayer?
