Daily Word Of God

Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear from the Law until all its purpose is achieved.

‘Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • While the Commandments of God may sound demanding and domineering, they have been set to help prevent us from destroying ourselves and each other and more importantly to help us love God more fully.

  • Thus, God will never make unnecessary demands on us unless they are for our own good and the good of everyone. This is because He loves us very much.

  • That is why God wants each of us not only to teach His Commandments, but also to live Christ-like lives to the full at all times. Then, we will all be participating in the building of the Kingdom of Heaven. There is no greater reason for living our daily lives.
