Reflection on the WORD

True Treasures”: Jesus proclaimed to His disciples, “Do not store up treasures on earth; they can be destroyed and stolen. Instead, store up treasures in heaven.” Ponder on: “Jesus’ Wisdom, will transform our hearts; only if our faith, hope and love for Him is deep. Otherwise, our “earthly treasures”; temptations and gratifications; will “rob” us of our “heavenly treasures.”

Matthew 6:19-23

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and woodworm destroy them and thieves can break in and steal. But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroys them and thieves cannot break in and steal. For wherever your treasure is, there will your heart be too.

‘The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is clear, your whole body will be filled with light. But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be darkness. If then, the light inside you is darkened, what darkness that will be!’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus declares in today’s Gospel passage: “Wherever your treasure is, there will your heart be too”. How true is this statement for you?
  • Recall the “treasures” that are closest to your heart. Do you still have them today? Have they been stolen or destroyed?
  • Pray for the grace to see beyond the material blessings that God has lavished on you, as these are the “treasures” that endure through eternity.
