Reflection on the WORD

Bread of Life” – Faith: Jesus proclaimed to the people, “I am the ‘Bread of Life’. No one who comes to Me will ever hunger; and those who believe in Me will never thirst.” Ponder on, “This Divine Truth reveals Jesus’ Body and Blood in the Eucharist”. And, this Truth is more precious than any gem and possession. Do we accept this Truth with deep gratitude?”

John 6:30-35

The people said to Jesus, ‘What sign will you yourself do, the sight of which will make us believe in you? What work will you do? Our fathers ate manna in the desert; as scripture says: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’

Jesus answered them: ‘In all truth I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, it is my Father who gives you the bread from heaven, the true bread; for the bread of God is the bread which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’

‘Sir,’ they said, ‘give us that bread always.’ Jesus answered them: ‘I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever hunger; no one who believes in me will ever thirst.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Many a time, like the sceptical and unbelieving Jews, we also ask Jesus for signs to “prove that He is truly the Son of God, our Messiah.”
  • We forget that we will only experience God’s power and love if we are willing to trust Him. It is only then that we will ‘never hunger or thirst’ again. Without faith, God cannot touch our hearts.
  • All the good that we do, all the things that come our way are only possible through God’s power and love. By ourselves, we are incapable of accomplishing anything; this we must never forget.
