Reflection on the WORD

True Purpose in Life” – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaimed to His disciples the Truth that: a person with faith in Jesus; is a “Light” on a lamp-stand, to shine in the “darkness” of situations of sin and evil. His goal is to live and serve God’s Will, for His Greater Glory. Ponder on, “Are we witnessing to God’s Will with selflessness, generosity and humility?

Luke 8:16-18

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘No one lights a lamp to cover it with a bowl or to put it under a bed. No, it is put on a lamp-stand so that people may see the light when they come in. For nothing is hidden but it will be made clear, nothing secret but it will be made known and brought to light.

So take care how you listen; anyone who has, will be given more; anyone who has not, will be deprived even of what he thinks he has.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Light shows the way in darkness. The light of Christ shows us the truth and direction to salvation.  We are called to be that “light” for Christ to lead people to God.
  • Fear, prejudice and pride prevent us from shining this God given light that is within us.
  • It is important that we remember this “light” comes from God.  Otherwise, we can become proud of our good works and achievements and forget God, the source of the light.
