Reflection on the WORD

Serving God’s Greater Glory”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaimed that the “Kingdom of Heaven” is the Eternal Home of every human person. St Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, was inspired by this vision and mission of, and with Jesus; and Jesuits serve the universal needs of the Church in the world. Ponder on, “Do I inspire others to get closer to God?”

Matthew 13:47-53

Jesus said to the crowds: ‘The kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet that is cast in the sea and brings in a haul of all kinds of fish. When it is full, the fishermen bring it ashore; then, sitting down, they collect the good ones in baskets and throw away those that are no use.

‘This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels will appear and separate the wicked from the upright, to throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.

‘Have you understood all these?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ And he said to them, ‘Well then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of Heaven is like a householder who brings out from his storeroom new things as well as old.’

When Jesus had finished these parables he left the district.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • The Kingdom of Heaven is promised to all of us. We have been entrusted to Jesus and His deepest desire is to bring eternal life to all of us.
  • Jesus paved the way for us by dying for our sins. To be people in His Kingdom we have to be one in Him, die unto ourselves, reject sin and spread the light of Christ's Kingdom to others through love.
  • Through God's Grace the Kingdom of God is in our hearts. How do I feel about this?  How is God challenging me to live my life more fully in His ways?
