Reflection on the WORD

Depth of our Faith”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus said to His disciples, “Everyone who listens to My Word and acts on them, will be like a sensible man who built his house on a rock.” Ponder on, “Jesus is reminding us to deepen our faith and love for Him through a life of concrete actions; instead of speaking ‘words with empty promises’. Is our faith deep?”

Matthew 7:21-27

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘'It is not anyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven. When the day comes many will say to me, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, work many miracles in your name?” Then I shall tell them to their faces: I have never known you; away from me, all evil doers!

‘Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on rock. Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and hurled themselves against that house, and it did not fall: it was founded on rock. But everyone who listens to these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid man who built his house on sand. Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and struck that house, and it fell; and what a fall it had!’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Many of us often wonder how to enter God’s kingdom of Heaven. The answer is simple; ‘Do God’s Will’. In other words, Love one another.
  • However, that is easier said than done. Loving someone can be difficult, especially if that person is your enemy. Jesus precisely calls us to love them.
  • Jesus died on the cross for those who hated and despised Him.  Thus, to follow God’s example of unselfish love, we need to live our lives for others; more so for those who despise us.
