Reflection on the WORD

Responsibilities” – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaimed to His disciples; to live their faith responsibly and witness to the Gospel with Compassion, Care and Truth to all peoples. Ponder on, “The Truth of the Gospel is within our hearts, as God’s Divine Gift to us. But, if we do not use them responsibly, we would have lost the true meaning and purpose of our lives.

Mark 9:41-42, 49-50

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tell you, he will most certainly not lose his reward. But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown into the sea with a great millstone hung round his neck.

‘For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is a good thing, but if salt has become insipid, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves and be at peace with one another.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus warns us against leading others away from God, especially the innocent and the young who have an openness and eagerness for the Truth of God.
  • Are there hindrances e.g. emotional hurts, anger, jealousy and the like that are causing us to counter witness to the Gospel values of Christ?
  • If we do, then we are each called to manage our emotional baggage in God’s ways e.g. by seeking counselling and by praying for God’s healing graces and the strength to forgive others more fully.
