Reflection on the WORD

Blindness of Faith”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus reprimanded the crowds for their “blindness and obstinacy” towards the Good News of Salvation. Ponder on, “Are we also at times blind to the Good News of Jesus? He offers us divine fulfilment, peace, happiness and Eternal Salvation. What are ‘blinding and binding us from this Truth?

Matthew 11:16-19

Jesus spoke to the crowds: ‘What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit in the market place: We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't be mourners.

‘For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He is possessed.” The Son of Man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet wisdom has been proved by her actions.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus' message of the Good News of salvation will produce true joy and spiritual freedom for those who will listen and accept its Truth.
  • However; Jesus is also cautioning the crowds and us not to be selective and indifferent to His Gospel of salvation.
  • Indifference dulls our hearts to God's promptings of the Truth.  What are the signs in your life that show you are open to God’s Good News of salvation and what are the hindrances?
