Reflection on the WORD

Vigilance – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminded His disciples to be vigilant in the way they live and proclaim the Good News of Salvation. Ponder on: Living a vigilant faith requires that we deepen our gratitude to God, and sincerely ‘renew’ our faith, hope and love for Him. We are also to witness to our faith, in good and also in trying times.

Luke 12:35-38

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘See that you are dressed for action and have your lamps lit. Be like men waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, ready to open the door as soon as he comes and knocks.

‘Happy those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. I tell you solemnly, he will put on an apron, sit them down at table and wait on them. It may be in the second watch he comes, or in the third, but happy those servants if he finds them ready.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus is not emphasizing that we wait anxiously for His return, but that we do not lose sight of Him as the Lord of our lives, in our daily living.
  • Jesus is only too aware of the things of this secular world that distract us from our Christian calling to live Christ-like lives daily.
  • Do we live a Christ-centred life daily or do we “drift” along with the masses of the secular world and imbibe materialistic and secular ways of living?  What is the Lord saying to you about the quality of your daily living?
