Reflection on the WORD

Jesus – Saviour: Faith In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaimed that Prophet Isaiah’s prophesy is fulfilled in Him. The crowd in Nazara, were filled with awe. Ponder on: When the Gospel Truth touches our hearts, do we act on the inspirations or do we shy away from doing God’s Will? How is the Holy Spirit urging you to speak about God’s Will courageously, like Jesus?

Luke 4:16-22a

Jesus came to Nazara, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day as he usually did. He stood up to read, and they handed him the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. Unrolling the scroll he found the place where it is written:

The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.

He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him.  Then he began to speak to them, ‘This text is being fulfilled today even while you are listening.’ And he won the approval of all, and they were astonished by the gracious words that came from his lips.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Throughout His life Jesus never lost sight of His mission of spreading the Good News of salvation.
  • As fully human, Jesus also has freedom of choice. His openness and deep love for God His Father allowed God's blessings and graces to work within Him. He chose to be faithful to His Father and to us at all times.
  • If we really desire to preach and witness to the Good News of salvation, Our Lord will ensure that we will be able to live it faithfully. The Lord tells us, yes “My yolk is easy and My burden light.”  We must dare to trust Him.
