Reflection on the WORD
Beatitudes – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaimed the “Beatitudes” to His disciples. These profound divine Truths will inspire us if, we have a sincere faith in Jesus, as our Saviour. Ponder on: If our life’s focus is living a longer life, fearing death, and preoccupied with self-glory, then, the divine gift of Eternal Happiness in the “Beatitudes” will not shape our hearts’ desires.
Matthew 5:2b-10
This is what Jesus taught his disciples:
‘How happy are the poor in spirit: theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Happy are the gentle: they shall have the earth for their heritage.
Happy those who mourn: they shall be comforted.
Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied.
Happy the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them.
Happy the pure in heart: they shall see God.
Happy the peacemakers: they shall be called sons of God.
Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right: theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- The Beatitudes becomes the “mantra” of our life, if we believe in Jesus the Son of God, who has come to give us eternal life.
- Each Beatitude will speak to us and touch us differently or we would find some of them particularly difficult to live in our daily life.
- All these Beatitudes guide us to be Christ-like and for this we need to “die to ourselves” so that the Truth of Christ can be made present in our daily living.
