Easter Wk 4th: Good Shepherd Sunday 21st April, 2024 April 21, 2024

Reflection on the WORD

Good Shepherd – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims Himself as the ‘Good Shepherd’ who knows His sheep personally, and is willing to die for them.  His sheep too listens to His voice.  Ponder on: As we ‘listen to Jesus’ voice, are we willing to make sacrifices, be generous and selfless in our service of His sheep, and those that do not yet know Him?

John 10:11-16

Jesus said: ‘I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and the sheep do not belong to him, abandons the sheep as soon as he sees a wolf coming, and runs away, and then the wolf attacks and scatters the sheep; he runs away because he is only a hired man and has no concern for the sheep.

‘I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep. And there are other sheep I have that are not of this fold, and I must lead these too. They too will listen to my voice, and there will be only one flock, one shepherd.’

  • Jesus, the guardian of our souls promises us eternal life with Him if we listen, accept and follow His voice and obey His Word.
  • Jesus fulfilled His Father’s Will faithfully and fully to the point of dying on the Cross for our sake.  How willing am I to suffer and obey God’s Will out of my love and gratitude to the Lord?
