Reflection on the WORD

Life’s Burdens – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives us the strength to accept all our burdens in our life.  No one can give us the assurance and hope that He gives. Ponder on: Jesus says, “Come to Me, all you who are overburdened. I will give you rest; I am Gentle and Humble in heart; you will find rest for your souls”How deep is our faith, love and hope in Jesus?

Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus exclaimed: ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Every person needs to rest from a heavy day’s work.  More so from prolonged work that has no rests; and certainly if one is on the verge of exhaustion.
  • However, the “rest from the burdens” that Jesus speaks of in today’s Gospel refers more to the weight of responsibilities and trials of life, than from the physical tiredness of our bodies.
  • Ultimately, as we human beings are finite, frail and full of faults, we need Christ to be our true source of strength and real source of hope and peace.
