Reflection on the WORD

Divine Revelation – Humility: In today’s Gospel, Jesus prays in thanksgiving to His Father for “revealing His Truth to little ‘children’, and hiding them from the ‘learned and clever’.”  Ponder on: When we are ‘humble’ like children, our minds and hearts are open to God’s Truth.  But, to be proud is sadly, to think we know ‘everything’ and that we don’t even need God.

Luke 10:21-24

Filled with joy by the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, ‘I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children. Yes, Father, for that is what it has pleased you to do. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.’

Then turning to his disciples he spoke to them by themselves, ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see, for I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see, and never saw it; to hear what you hear, and never heard it.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus is referring us as the “blessed” ones who have been presented with God’s works, miracles and Truth; yet blind to their existence.
  • To be able “see” we must have an intimate relationship with Him, who is our Lord and Saviour, so that our hearts will be filled with joy to praise and thank Him.
  • What is your present relationship with God like?  Is it weak, superficial, personal or intimate?  Ponder on your life for a few moments and listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to you.
