Reflection on the WORD
Loving God – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus responded to the Pharisees’ question; that the “Greatest Commandment of the Law” is “To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind. And, to love your neighbour as yourself.” Ponder on: Do we justify and compromise our love for Godby not truly loving our neighbour; especially the poor and needy?
Matthew 22:34-40
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees they got together and, to put him to the test, one of them put a further question, ‘Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?’
Jesus said to him, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment.
‘The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets too.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- In today’s gospel, Jesus sums up the Great Commandment of Love. True love must express itself in three dimensions: love of God, love of neighbour, and love of oneself.
- We cannot profess that we genuinely love God who is invisible, and show indifference or hatred for our neighbours whom we see, for we are all made in God’s image.
- When you serve and help others, especially the poor and marginalized, do you do it out of unconditional love for God or for selfish motives?
