Reflection on the WORD
Jesus’ Love for Mary – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus affirms Mary as His Mother, by praising Her great fidelity to His Father’s Word. Ponder on: When we live God’s Word of Truth and Salvation with fidelity, we are witnessing to our true identity as a child of God. But, Mary’s perfect Fidelity elevates her as the Model and the Mother of all the Faithful.
Luke 8:19-21
The mother and brothers of Jesus came looking for him, but they could not get to him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to see you.” But he said in answer, ‘My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and put it into practice.’

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Jesus considers all those who “hear the Word of God and practice it” to be “His family.” This means to live His Word is to live in God’s Truth and thus draws us closer to Him.
- How much do you value God’s Word and how often do you reflect on its Truth and allow yourself to be guided, inspired and challenged by it?
- Open the Word of God and begin to ponder on the life of Jesus beginning from Mark’s Gospel or Luke’s Gospel daily, even if this means taking up a few minutes of your time.
