Reflection on the WORD
Purpose of life – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims the importance of having the clear goal and direction in our lives. And, this is to praise, reverence and serve God’s Will. Ponder on: Do we discern, nurture and serve God’s Will? If we do, then we will surely be reaping its fruits of: deep peace, joy and fulfilment that will enrich the quality of our lives.
Luke 8:16-18
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘No one lights a lamp to cover it with a bowl or to put it under a bed. No, it is put on a lamp-stand so that people may see the light when they come in. For nothing is hidden but it will be made clear, nothing secret but it will be made known and brought to light.
‘So take care how you listen; anyone who has, will be given more; anyone who has not, will be deprived even of what he thinks he has.’

- The parable of the lighted candle is about people bearing fruit. Jesus is the great Light and His light is meant to shine through us to the world that lives in darkness.
- As His followers, we are called to shine Jesus’ light to others through our daily witness of the Good News of salvation. Then we will bear fruit and will accomplish the things that God has called us to do.
- Look among your family, friends, colleagues, even acquaintances. There could be someone who is searching for more meaning in life. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to bring this person to Jesus.
